Big Blog Promotion: FFG Fluffy Fizzy Bath Bombs For Cheap!!!

So, Fat Farmgirl is decidedly not foofoo. She doesn't go in for all that smelly, perfumy, powdery-girly stuff, and bubble baths are the perplexing domain of city girls who aren't always scrubbing mud off their heels and trying to pick hayseeds out of their hair! Then, one of my true besties in Sunny California told me that there's this big natural beauty outfit out West that sells fizzy bath bombs that are just as wonderful as mine, but they also offer a bubble bath bar that you throw into the tub along with the bath bomb for an extra special treat. Can Fat Farmgirl do better, she asks? Well, not to be out-done by any slick city girls, I answered with an emphatic, "Heck, *yeah*!"

I tinkered with this recipe for about a month before I finally got it perfected, and finally made a dozen of these half-pound (8 ounces!!!) treats to send to my Cali Bestie for product testing, but during packaging I broke a couple of them and decided to try one for myself in the tub instead of watching it in the soaping bowl. Oh, my holy heck!!! It's like bathing in a soft, bubbly, fragrant dessert! Just to make sure my first tub experience wasn't a fluke, I smashed one of those puppies on the floor whilst packing them to ship (Oops! I can't exactly mail damaged goods on purpose, now, can I???), and dutifully ran a steaming bath to properly dispose of it....And then swam around in the tub like a happy, silky seal for about an hour until the bubbles started to fade. I never imagined that a bath could be so much fun! Who knew that a heavenly bubble bath could come in such a neat little package? Or that this Fat Farmgirl had such soft, glowing skin hiding underneath a day's working grime!

I could easily keep this recipe aaaall to myself, but that wouldn't be very nice, now would it?! So to kick off my new line of fresh, hand-crafted soap and bath treats, I'm offering my Fat Farmgirl's Fluffy Fizzy Bath Bombs to you as a special promotion, just to get you hooked! I am a soap dealer, after all!

So, for the first 500 customers, you can have one of my hand-crafted Fat Farmgirl's Fluffy Fizzy Bath Bombs for only $7 each, shipping & handling included (limit two per customer, allow 4-6 weeks for delivery).

Take your pick: Lavender, or Peppermint. Remember that all of my bath products are all-natural, with no preservatives, and they're always made with the finest essential oils, never perfumes or synthetic ingredients. When this promotion ends, the price will go up a little (a girl's gotta live, even on the farm!), and shipping charges will apply.

Authentic Buttered Beere Just in Time for Autumn

I love Buttered Beere. It's awesome stuff, and as old as the hills.

My mother's old recipe books all had versions for this wonderful Autumn elixir, but my favourite is copied from a scrap of paper I found long, long ago, crammed in the pages of an ancient tome I found in a musty old book shop. So imagine my horror when one of my goddaughters sent me an email and asked me if some seltzer-and-caramel-sauce-goo "recipe" she'd found on some Harry Potter webpage was a good one. HORRORS!!!

Everyone should know how to make true buttered beere. It's a classic recipe, and it's wonderful, so pass it on and make your family's Autumn festivities more fun!

REAL English Buttered Beere:

6 cups good English Beer (about 3 bottles)
1/4 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
1 cup natural brown (rustic) sugar
5 egg yolks
1/2 cup sweet butter, softened

*In a heavy saucepan, bring beer and spices just to a boil; reduce heat to low to simmer beer for just a few minutes (about 20 if you want to burn off the alcohol).

*Whisk sugar and egg yolks together until light and frothy; add mixture to the simmering beer and whisk together. Stirring mixture constantly, let the beer thicken slightly (about 5 minutes), but don't let it curdle.

*Stir in softened butter, then froth mixture with your whisk until it foams on top.

*Serve hot in mugs with a sprinkle of nutmeg.

If you want chilled Buttered Beer, refrigerate your caramelized beer overnight, then mix it with 6 cups ice cold milk until frothy.

The best commercial beers to use are Old Speckled Hen, Spitfire, or Bishop's Finger. Always use a true English Ale, never a lager. I brew my own hoppy beer for just this purpose.

This recipe is several hundred years old and known and enjoyed throughout England, and it's most definitely what Harry Potter would be drinking in a pub (where it is regularly served in the Winters). were he real. To my knowledge, it was first published in "The Good Huswife's Handmaide for the Kitchen," in A.D. 1588.

Hey there! I'm Fat Farmgirl, a.k.a Miki Odendahl.

My friends call me "Fat Miki;" maybe because I'm in the Mob and don't know it?

Anyway, I make natural soaps, can veggies and preserves, make wine, herbal tinctures, creams, bath stuff and do a lot of needlework. A long time ago, I made soap and hand-dipped candles all the time. Then, life got busy, other projects took over, and pretty soon my soap kettle and beeswax pots found themselves gathering dust and cobwebs.

I am a weekend homesteader, married to a "starving artist" filmmaker, and sharing a house with our best friend. We do a lot of charity work, raise organic vegetables for those who need food, and spend a lot of our time making and doing. To support my life and projects, I'm cleaning out the pots and kettles and offering my soaps and stuff for sale. Real soap is so much better--and better for you--than synthetic chemical detergents.

At its most basic, soap is just salt. It works by changing the way water acts to wash dirt away. In handmade soap making, tallow, lard and vegetable oils are mixed with natural lye to cause a chemical reaction that converts the fats to create these cleansing salts; when you're done, no lye remains, just pure soap, and people like me add things like milk, honey, essential oils, herbs, flowers and clays to make everything that needs cleaning extra special.
